Adjectives can go after the following verbs                                  

يمكن وضع صفات بعد هذه الأفعال                               

.John appeared happy when the company promoted him

 بدت السعادة على جون عندما قامت الشركة بترقيته .

 .She felt really happy with the new baby

كانت بالفعل سعيدة بالمولود الجديد . 

.The pieces lay scattered over the floor

كانت القطع مبعثرة على الأرضية .  

 .This person looks really tired

يبدو هذا الشخص بالفعل مرهقاً . 

 .Everybody remained silent for a few minutes

ظل الجميع صامتاً لدقائق قليلة .

.This secretary seems (to be) very efficient

يبدو هذا السكرتير كفؤ جداً .

 .That perfume smelled so fresh

كانت رائحة العطر منعشة جدا .

.She sounded very surprised when she heard the news

كانت مندهشة جداً عند سماعها الأخبار . 

.Everybody stayed calm when the fire alarm went off

التزم الجميع الهدوء عندما دوى جهاز إنذار الحريق .

 .This grapefruit tastes very bitter 

هذا الجريب فروت مر المذاق .

 .The professor grew unhappy because the students were not listening well

 أصبح البروفيسور غاضباً لأن الطلاب لم يستعموا إليه جيداً .

 .The new secretary proved (to be) very friendly

أثبتت السكرتيرة الجديدة أنها ودودة.  

 .The children ran wild

 تصرف الأولاد بلا حدود / بلا ضوابط .

 .The milk turned sour

 صار اللبن حامضاً. 

.She got upset with her students

 لقد انزعجت من طلابها.

• The cake tastes good. Correct

• The cake tastes well. Not Correct

• The train is slow. Correct

• The train is slowly. Not Correct

• James grew tired. Correct

• Sarah remained calm. Correct

• The milk went bad. Correct

• The seas turned rough. Correct

• The negotiations proved pointless. Correct

When we speak about what something looks like, smells, sounds, and tastes – we use the adjective. Mind the difference between adjective and adverb.

• .I feel great

• .She looks good.

• .It seems impossible

• .The steak smells fantastic

?Can adjectives be used without nouns 

هل يمكن استخدام الصفات بدون أسماء؟         

Yes, adjectives can be used without nouns. Mind the definite article the

نعم يمكن استخدام الصفات بدون أسماء وتٌسبق الصفة بـ (الـ) التعريفية وتترجم على أنها اسم جمع

The rich	الأغنياء	rich	غني
The poor	الفقراء	poot	فقير
The gifted	الموهوبين	gifted	موهوب

 الأغنياء        the rich = rich people 

:Here is an example with nationalities in the plural

صفات الجنسية وحدها بدون اسم مسبوقة بـ (الـ) التعريفية تعامل معاملة الجمع

 زThe Scottish live in the North of the United Kingdom

يعيش الاسكتلنديون في شمال المملكة المتحدة .

?Can two or more adjectives be used together

هل يمكن استخدام صفتين أو أكثر مع بعضهم البعض؟

:Yes, if you use more adjectives you can put them in front of the noun

لو استخدمت أكثر من صفة ، ضع هذه الصفات قبل الاسم

 a fat old cat

Or you can put them after the verb (e.g. to be). In this case and is placed between the last two adjectives

أو بإمكانك وضع هذه الصفات بعد فعل "يكون" وتوضع أداة العطف "و" بين آخر صفتين

.It was cold, wet, and windy

Adjectives, ending in -ing and -ed

There are adjectives ending in -ing and -ed. These are participle constructions, used like adjectives. Here are some examples

بعض الصفات تنتهي بـ  ed أو ing فأسماء الفاعل وأسماء المفعول تستخدم كصفات

  A) Here the adjective is put before the noun

   .Yesterday I read an amusing story in a magazine

بالأمس قرأت قصة مسلية في مجلة .

 .He has a boring job

لديه عمل ممل .

  .We watched a group of excited people

لقد شاهدنا جماعة من المتحمسين .

:B) Here the adjective is put after the verb

في هذه الأمثلة توضع الصفة بعد الفعل:

 .I was not at all amused by the discussion

لم أكن مستمتعاً على الإطلاق بالمناقشة .

.Children get bored very quickly

يٌصاب الأطفال بالملل بشكل سريع جداً .

 .The end of the film was really exciting for me

كانت نهاية الفيلم مثيرة جدا بالنسبة لي .
